Artist Statement

In the memory everything is presented separately, according to its category. Each is admitted through its own special entrance.All these sensations are retained in the great storehouse of memory, which in some indescribable way secretes them in its folds. They can be brought out and called back again when they are needed, but each enters the memory through its own gateway and is retained in it.

Using the language of textiles, my most recent work explores themes of personal and collective memory. I am interested in the way our experiences of the world are absorbed through the body, and the way these experiences are then sorted through, stored, and revisited. I hope to craft poetic metaphors that speak to the existence of that which resonates just below the surface. While the elusive nature of both personal and collective memory is unseen, it is inextricably linked with our identity. Notions of containment, longing, and desire are alluded to within the work as everyday objects act as metaphor for human presence.
